I'm kind of homeless. Well, i haven't a spot to put my bus, so i haven;t electricity, which is the problem. I'm woring on it, though! Otherwise, the bus thing is going pretty swell.

I am in Antigonish, NS and sitting in the back of my messy, dirty bus. I am sllloooowwwly trying to build a 4-foot or so loft for my bed, but i need to borrow a saw or buy plywood before i can move on. Aside from removing all but the front two seats, this is the only modification Toby has recieved yet. More to come.
Driving across canada was pretty neat. I fell in love with Winnipeg. It's kind of poor, has a kind DIY community that's pretty visible, and is uglypretty. Really, the bike repair/sale co-op and vegan restaurant above made me fall in love with it. I think i will live there.
I am eager to stop moving so people and life can catch up with me. School starts on wednesday and i will be there thursday. |

to get to YK i take the bus to grasslands, hitch along the highway its on to #2, take that all the way til just past peace river then get on the 35 which goes into the NWT and tirns into the mackenzie highway and takes me to YK. |

I feel like a doofus a bit, but i backed out of the bus thing. The reason being that the greater value of possessions i own, the more tied to "things" i feel I am and the less free i feel. Owning a bus would feel kinda like having a kid for me, i figure, except i could jsut get rid of it whenever.
This means I dont know where i will live in the coming summers; it also means my pal Lexy cant paint my bus up cool and i cannot build my own interior all nice.
As well, I wont feel bourgie and i will hitchike across canada.
Maybe in a few years. For now, YOU can have that bus if you want it. A cool grand |

I am just around the bend from finally getting my bus.
Its an early '90s Econoline diesel bus with a wheelchair lift, looks kinds like this: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/91/241052423_4a3c6e5649.jpg?v=0
It belongs to my boss/work and has a huge Water Pure and Simple logo ALL over the side ( http://www.wpsab.com/logo.gif ). I dont know what to do about thta. Im thinking just letting people at the music festivals im going to paint all over it.
What should i do with it; the paint job i mean?
Julia has agreed to let me live in her parking spot and clean my dirty self with her plumbing!
Now to iron out some pesky wrinkles I caused, then off to live the life! |

I am vacillating back and forth between the simple excitement of living in my own place in a neat part of Halifax with cool roomates and friends (as well as the obligation involved with committing myself to a roomate) , and the practicality and capability of living in a bus; the latter is extremely plausible, for those of you out of the loop.
And i realize i looked really good with short hair...
I am leaving fort mcmurray for another year and hopefully much longer, in three weeks: July 15th. As much as i have tried, i feel really only negative things about this town. It brings me and others to do jobs they resent and feel morally objected to, and consistently gobbles up nice things for more ugly, tacky and flimsy things. The other day i rode my bike along the Clearwater river. Development has moved far along it. Next to a quarter-klick long pile of chopped trees, there was a small, vandalized plaque on a post that had pictures and descriptions of local birds. I didnt recognize either. |

Once upon a time i believed in lots of simple, friendly, holistic things thanks to various humans and religions. Then I gradually, literally forgot most of it and became lame. Now I'm remembering! and thereby doing good and pleasant things♠ So please, tell me anything, please.

I'm in fort mcmurray now, and it isnt as bad as i cracked it up to be. Its really pretty if you squint and i am rolling in dough for now. I started out really super keen on buying a bus or camper to live in indefinitely, and still think its a good idea, but odd as it seems i feel like even that would tie me down uncomfortably. Maybe i have issues, Freud? I have found some really nice busses and camper vans to buy for surprisingly cheap (all under 2 grand) and this one in Montana which some woman painted up and used for an anti-meth campaign seems really great. Plus, i just got some emails from someone in hali who likes to bike and wants a roomate in a home without wheels. Such is my dillema. Everyone must recall what a vacillator i am. Allen the Decisionless.
bus= 1500 to buy, 400 to register etc, 1500 to get to festivals and hali. 3400 total, plus monthly registration maybe and mechanical probs
rent is 400 a month roughly. Equals 3200 for eight months, but ill likely get stuck on a year lease, which would be 4800
seems like an apt/house is cheaper
cept when it rolls into next year
benefits: bus last longer (presumably/hopefully)
Bus is ecologically (kinda) friendlier
Bus is minimalist lifestyle
Bus is mine and ill feel great i bought it and fixed 'er up
I can drive it to BC or anywhere in the americas and live and work and not pay rent (YK?)
Negs: How will i heat it?
I OWN something HUGE
Way more expensive to get to Hali from west
May actually not be cheaper than a house
Negs: unexpected maintainance
Plus: Its romantic, and so am i. We'll get along great
Additionally and loosely related, I really do plan to go to the Calg folk fest and Shambhala, an possibly Folk on the Rocks. I cant wait! Music and friends all around. And ill hitchhike back to NS afterward.
Who likes electronic music? What kinds? I am digging psytrance lately. |
